Míope
Míope ("short-sighted" in Portuguese) was born during a very, very long lockdown, back in 2020 (remember that?). Due to the impossibility of working with photography or even getting physically close to people, I needed to find other ways to express myself artistically.
I ended up going back to my roots: as an only child, most of my time was invested in drawing and painting. I would shut down from reality and take deep dives in my universe. Photography came into my life when I was a teenager and it opened other doors for me, putting illustration and painting aside, for many years.
Like most people, during the pandemic, I had plenty of time to do some thinking, to figure things out in terms of work, and to create art just for the sake of it, without worrying too much about on capitalizing it.
Why Míope?
When you're short-sighted, you need to make an actual effort to see things around you. Through my lens, I'm able to see my reality, my truth about the world and people. While I shoot someone, I go blind, for the most part. I might know a few things about the subject, but they only truly reveal themselves when a camera is pointing at them.
I get close to them. Close enough so I can see them for what they are or what they want to show me.
